Stop At: Karla Caves, Karli, Lonavala India
Karla Cave was built during Satavahana’s rule and is a perfect example of rock-cut architecture. The sculptures in the Bhaja caves feature grand headdress, jewellery and garlands which might have been painted in bright colours originally but later got covered by plaster. A waterfall can be seen in the last cave which brims with water during the monsoon, cascading into a small pond at the bottom. These caves seem very similar to Ellora caves, Aurangabad, but not as enchanting as the ones there. The Chaityagruha is amazing with array of rock cut columns with inscriptions and carvings. There is alley behind the columns, probably for the devotees to stand behind during prayers in those times. To conclude you will be dropped back to your hotel/railway station/airport in Mumbai.
